For almost five decades, Titan Cementara Kosjerić has been a symbol of reliability, community partnership, and sustainable industry in Western Serbia. Miroslav Gligorijevic, CEO of Titan Cementara Kosjerić
TITAN Group, founded in Greece in 1902, is now an international company operating in more than ten countries. How would you describe TITAN’s global presence and the main directions of its development worldwide?
TITAN Group’s story began in Greece more than 120 years ago, but it has evolved into a truly international company with operations in Europe, the United States, Africa, and the Eastern Mediterranean. What connects all of these markets is a consistent focus on quality, innovation, and sustainability. TITAN produces cement, ready-mix concrete, aggregates, and other construction materials, but its mission goes far beyond that. We build the infrastructure that supports sustainable cities, energy transition, and a better quality of life.
Today, the Group’s priorities are clearly defined: digital transformation, decarbonization, and the development of people. TITAN invests heavily in reducing its carbon footprint and adopting low-carbon technologies, while also supporting local communities wherever it operates. It is a great example of how a company with Greek origins can remain deeply connected to its values, while competing successfully in a global context.
TITAN successfully applies its international standards here in Serbia. Which of these practices have proven most important for the operations and growth of the Kosjerić Cement Plant?
When TITAN Group acquired the Kosjerić plant in 2002, it brought not just capital investment but also a culture of continuous improvement and responsible management. The most important practices have been the strict application of safety standards, process efficiency, and environmental protection.
We’ve implemented TITAN’s global management systems for quality, health, safety, and environmental performance. Each decision is guided by data, and every improvement is measured and shared across the Group. Over the years, these standards have helped us modernize our production process, reduce energy consumption, and maintain a strong competitive position on the Serbian market.
But perhaps the most valuable contribution has been in the area of people development. TITAN’s philosophy is that every employee matters and that their growth drives the company’s growth. In Titan Cementara Kosjerić, this means continuous training, mentorship, and a work culture built on respect and transparency.

The innitiative “For My Kosjerić” has become a strong example of cooperation between industry and the local community. Which activities and results of the project stand out the most, and what are the plans for the coming years?
“For My Kosjerić” („Za moj Kosjerić“) is one of the projects we are most proud of. It started in 2013 as a small initiative to support local community projects, and it has since grown into a platform for collaboration between citizens, associations, schools, and local institutions. Through transparent annual competitions, we fund ideas that contribute to education, culture, sports, environmental protection, and youth development.
So far, more than 100 projects have been supported - from playgrounds and sports facilities to ecological clean-up actions and cultural programs. What’s important is that these projects are proposed and led by the citizens themselves. It shows that when a company truly listens to its community, lasting partnerships emerge.
Our “For My Kosjerić” initiative is already widely recognized, but we also support the local Health Center, as well as infrastructure and environmental projects. Last year, we invested more than EUR 360,000 in various community initiatives, providing, among other things, a vehicle for transporting dialysis patients and connecting the Health Center, the primary school, and the high school to the district heating system.
In the years ahead, we plan to expand the program’s reach, include digital education for young people, and introduce a special category focused on environmental innovation. Our vision is to make Kosjerić not only a good place to work, but a great place to live.
TITAN Cementara Kosjerić recently celebrated an impressive 1,700 days without a workplace accident. How significant is this achievement, and what were the key factors behind it?
For us, safety is not a statistic - it is a value. Reaching 1,700 days, or nearly five years without a single workplace injury, is a remarkable achievement for any industrial facility. It reflects the commitment, discipline, and teamwork of every employee.
The key factors are continuous education, strict adherence to safety protocols, and open communication. Each person has the right - and the responsibility - to stop work if they notice a risk. That’s part of our culture. We’ve also invested in modern monitoring systems and preventive maintenance to ensure that safety is built into every process.
To advance our goals and uphold our vision of a safe and healthy work environment, we have implemented a comprehensive Health and Safety Policy. This framework establishes a clear system of principles, responsibilities, and obligations, as well as defined requirements ensuring that all employees, contractors, and partners adhere to applicable regulations, internal rules, and operational procedures that support the highest safety and quality standards.
This milestone proves that safety and productivity go hand in hand. It’s not about avoiding incidents - it’s about building a mindset of care and accountability.

Globally, TITAN Group aims to reduce its carbon footprint and transition to low-carbon processes. How does the Kosjerić Cement Plant contribute to these goals, and what steps are being taken in environmental protection?
Environmental responsibility is one of our top priorities. Cement production is an energy-intensive process, and our task is to make it as efficient and clean as possible. In Kosjerić, we have significantly reduced CO₂ emissions through process optimization, alternative raw materials, and improved energy efficiency.
We continuously monitor air quality, invest in dust filters, and implement the best available technologies in line with EU standards. In addition, we are exploring the gradual introduction of alternative fuels derived from non-hazardous waste, which can replace part of traditional fossil fuels and contribute to circular economy goals.
Our aim is to align with TITAN Group’s global target of net zero emissions by 2050. Every ton of cement we produce carries a responsibility toward the environment and the future generations of Kosjerić.
TITAN Cementara Kosjerić has been a member of the Hellenic Business Association of Serbia for more than 15 years. What does this membership mean to you, and how satisfied are you with the Association’s overall work and activities?
The Hellenic Business Association has been an invaluable partner to TITAN in Serbia. For us, this membership is not just formal - it represents a living connection to the company’s Greek heritage and to a network of businesses that share the same values of professionalism, integrity, and social responsibility.
Through the Association, we exchange experiences, collaborate on economic and educational initiatives, and promote closer ties between Greece and Serbia. I’m particularly pleased with how the Association supports dialogue between companies and government institutions, encouraging an open and transparent business environment.
After more than fifteen years of membership, I can say that this community of Greek and Serbian professionals is one of the strongest bridges of friendship and economic cooperation in the region - and Titan Cementara Kosjerić is proud to be part of it.
