ONGOING COMMITMENT TO SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY AND HIGH QUALITY STANDARDS
Panayiotis Pitsikos, Director and Founder of the Autostop Interiors
"The past decade, in Serbia has been an incredible journey filled with significant achievements and transformative changes. While we have certainly experienced substantial business growth, I believe our most profound success lies in our positive impact on the local community."
Autostop Global produces interiors for the automotive industry since 1991, when it was founded in Greece. Can you tell us more about your production facilities and the international commercial presence?
Founded in Greece in September 1991, Autostop Global has been a leader in producing high-quality interiors for the automotive industry. What began as a one-person operation with a single sewing machine and a few tools has transformed into a thriving enterprise known for its exceptional craftsmanship and customer service. Our journey took a significant turn in 1993 when we earned the trust of Connolly Leather, one of the world’s most prestigious suppliers. This partnership established us as the exclusive manufacturer of leather seats for Connolly in Greece and Cyprus, paving the way for our international expansion. As we grew, we became a trusted supplier for major automotive brands, including Ford Motor and Toyota, delivering leather seats to their European plants. Today, our esteemed client portfolio includes not only Ford and Toyota but also renowned names such as Porsche, Audi, Škoda, BMW, and Peugeot, among others. Currently, our products manufactured in Serbia are exported to 20 countries across Europe, Africa, and the USA. We operate two state-of-the-art production facilities in Leskovac and Bojnik, employing approximately 800 skilled workers. In addition to automotive interiors, our Bojnik plant also produces PVC and PU raw materials, which are utilized in various industries, including automotive aviation, rail, and furniture.
Last year you celebrated the 10th anniversary of the company Autostop Interiors in Serbia. What do you consider to be the biggest success during this period?
The past decade, in Serbia has been an incredible journey filled with significant achievements and transformative changes. While we have certainly experienced substantial business growth, I believe our most profound success lies in our positive impact on the local community. When I first arrived in Leskovac ten years ago, the scars of the recent war were still visible: abandoned factories, empty streets, and high unemployment rates painted a stark picture. Despite these challenges, I found a community filled with resilient and proud individuals eager to work and eager to rebuild. As we engaged with numerous families in Leskovac, I witnessed remarkable progress year after year. Many of our employees, who initially joined us as individuals, have not only developed rewarding careers but have also established families, purchased homes, and contributed to the local economy. It has been heartwarming to see couples who met at our company getting married and starting families. The transformation of the city has been nothing short of remarkable, with the emergence of new restaurants, shopping malls, and supermarkets, alongside renovated roads that promote connectivity and accessibility. This rapid development signifies not just growth in infrastructure, but also an advancement in the quality of life for the community. I consider the greatest success of Autostop Interiors to be our significant role in fostering this development. We have not only contributed to the local economy but have also played a part in uplifting the community and empowering its people to thrive.

Your customers are among the largest automotive companies worldwide. Which key factors are essential when building successful customer relationships?
It was not easy to build successful relationships with these large automotive companies, and several key factors were essential to be consistent and with long term commitment. The most important and crucial are the below:
Understanding Customer Needs: It's crucial to have a deep understanding of the specific needs and challenges faced by automotive companies. This includes staying updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and technological advancements.
Consistent Communication: Maintaining open and regular communication helps foster trust and transparency. This can include regular updates, feedback sessions, and ensuring that customers feel heard and valued.
Quality and Reliability: Providing high-quality products and services consistently builds confidence and trust. Automotive companies often rely on their partners to deliver reliable solutions that meet safety and performance standards.
Collaboration and Partnership: Viewing the relationship as a partnership rather than a transaction encourages collaboration. This can lead to innovative solutions that benefit both parties and strengthen the relationship.
Flexibility and Responsiveness: The automotive industry can be dynamic, so being able to adapt to changing needs and respond quickly to issues is vital. This shows customers that you are committed to supporting them in any situation.
Long-term Commitment: Demonstrating a long-term commitment to the relationship can help build loyalty. This includes investing in understanding their future goals and aligning your offerings to support their strategic initiatives.
Feedback and Improvement: Actively seeking feedback and showing a willingness to improve based on customer input can enhance the relationship. It shows that you value their opinion and are dedicated to meeting their evolving needs.
By focusing on these factors, we managed to establish and maintain strong, successful relationships with our customers in the automotive industry
As a result of successful operations, Autostop Interiors became the first company in the automotive industry in Serbia to receive the prestigious certification - Family Friendly Enterprise. How do your employees benefit from this certificate?
Autostop Interiors' achievement of the Family Friendly Enterprise certification is more than a mere accolade; it signifies our commitment to creating a supportive and inclusive work environment. This certification represents a comprehensive system that evaluates and enhances the benefits we offer to our employees beyond their salaries. The system includes an annual assessment conducted by an external organization, ensuring that our Family Friendly practices are continually reviewed and refined. This ongoing evaluation allows us to measure the effectiveness of our initiatives and make necessary adjustments to better support our employees and their families. Moreover, the certification provides a clear framework for employees to understand and engage with the benefits available to them. It fosters an open dialogue about potential improvements, enabling us to adapt our practices in response to employee feedback. Furthermore, this certification aligns with our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy and principles, which we have adhered to for many years. As part of our ongoing commitment to social responsibility, we are also planning to acquire an additional certification soon, further demonstrating our dedication to ethical practices and employee well-being. One of our most significant successes is the positive impact we have on the local community. By integrating this certification system and adhering to our CSR principles, we strive to enhance the overall experience for our employees and their families each year, reinforcing our commitment to their well-being and professional growth.

What are your plans for future business development in the coming years?
Despite the challenges posed by the ongoing electrification trends within the automotive industry, we are seeing continued growth. This positive trajectory is largely driven by the shifting of projects from developed regions in Central Europe to the Balkans, primarily due to the rising costs in the former. In Serbia, we have experienced significant cost increases over the past three years, which poses a risk of losing projects to North African countries, which have recently emerged as strong competitors in our market. To address these challenges and capitalize on emerging opportunities, we are focusing on several key initiatives:
Process Automation: We are investing in the automation of our processes to enhance productivity and maintain our competitive edge. By advancing towards Industry 4.0 standards, we aim to modernize our production capabilities, which will improve efficiency and reduce costs.
Skill Development: Automation will not only boost productivity but also provide our employees with advanced skills and experiences, positioning them at the forefront of industry innovations.
Quality and Production Volume: Securing our quality standards and optimizing production volumes are crucial for sustaining our market position. By doing so, we aim to protect our current workforce and ensure stable revenue streams.
Future-proofing: We are also exploring strategic partnerships and diversifying our project portfolio to mitigate risks associated with cost fluctuations and market competition.
Our commitment to these strategies will enable us to navigate market uncertainties effectively, sustain growth, and contribute to the long-term success of our business.
You are an active member of the HBA. What does the Hellenic Business Association represent for you and are you satisfied with its work?
The Hellenic Business Association (HBA) represents a vital support network for Greek companies operating in Serbia. For me, the HBA is not only a professional platform but also a significant source of relief and community connection for Greek businesses navigating the local market. The Association provides invaluable support through its various initiatives, helping to bridge the gap between Greek companies and the Serbian business environment. It offers a range of services, including networking opportunities, business development resources, and advocacy, which are essential for navigating the complexities of international business. Moreover, the HBA fosters a sense of community by bringing together Greek business leaders and professionals, creating opportunities to build relationships and share experiences. The social events and gatherings organized by the HBA are more than just networking opportunities—they also provide a chance to connect with fellow Greeks, share insights, and enjoy a sense of camaraderie. I am highly satisfied with the HBA's work and its impact on the Greek business community in Serbia. The Association’s dedication to supporting its members and its proactive approach to addressing business challenges are commendable. Their efforts significantly contribute to our ability to thrive and succeed in a competitive market.
